16.12.2012 Ugra is a leader again!

On December 15, 2012 on the third day of the International Sledge Hockey Tournament “Ugra” beat Udmurtia 2:0.

An exciting game held the spectators in suspense during the match. Ugra sledge hockey players attacked the team of Izhevsk but it could not kick the puck into the opponents’ net in the first period. The team of Udmurtia also played very actively. The fans applauded goaltender of Ugra Sergey Badaev who steadily caught the pucks flying into our net again and again.

Ugra players opened the score in the tenth minute of the second period. Almost till the end of the third period the score remained 1:0. “Just hold out! Don’t let Izhevsk kick the puck! – cried spectators from the stands. – We need one more goal! Puck, Ugra! Puck!”. In the 14^th minute of the third period Ugra sledge hockey players made their fans’ day having kicked the second goal to the team of Udmurtia.

Our guys won. They threw their helmets on ice, knocked with the sticks together with the public yelling: “Well done! Ugra is the champion!” and lighted with smiles. Being satisfied with the play of his team coach Aleksand Zykov ran on ice and congratulated his trainees with friendly embrace.

“I cannot put into words those emotions you feel when you watch the play of sledge hockey players. The guys tried their best. – says Eduard Isakov, president of sledge hockey club “Ugra”. – I can safely say that to play sledge hockey is more difficult than usual hockey. I tried both of them. To move on sledge pushing with a stick and at the same time to carry the puck and to attack is very difficult. Today the athletes showed fascinating game and our sledge hockey players satisfied us with the win. I wish them good luck in next matches!”

Besides, on December 15 within the international tournament two more games were held. The team of Czech Republic beat Slovakia team with the score 6:0. The team of Poland lost the match with “Phoenix” from Moscow Region with the score15:0.

Today at 19.00 “Ugra” plays with “Atak” from Poland.

It is to be recalled that the International Sledge Hockey Tournament “Ugra Cup” takes place in Khanty-Mansiysk from December 12 to December 17, 2012.
