Yesterday on December 13, 2012 the International Sledge Hockey Tournament “Ugra Cup” was opened. Yesterday on December 13, 2012 the International Sledge Hockey Tournament “Ugra Cup” was opened.

The teams of Udmurtia and Poland opened the competition having played with the score 10 to 0 for Izhevsk team. Then sledge hockey players from Czech Republic and Moscow Region met on ice. The result was that Czech hockey players defeated Russian team by 2 goals to 1.

The first day of the tournament was finished with the match of Ugra and Slovakia teams. During the game Ugra sledge hockey players were leading on points. The fist period ended with the result 4 to 0, in the second period Ugra players kicked one more puck and in the third period they confirmed their advantage - they kicked 8 pucks and did not allow Slovakian players nearing to their net. The game ended with the devastating 13:0 for Ugra team.

During the game the fans yelled “Ugra – the Champion!” and supported our players with a round of loud applause.

The Shabalin family went from Shapsha village of Khanty-Mansiysk district to support Ugra sledge hockey players. 5-month Alina was quietly lying in the pram while her mother, father and two sisters were watching the game.

“Ugra! Ugra! Dad has kicked the puck,” crowed five-year-old boy to his mother. Georgiy is a beginner hockey player; he came to support his father – Konstantin Shikhov, captain of Ugra team.

- Kostya captivated his son with hockey. - says Anastasia Shokhova, mother of the boy.

- I play hockey and certainly I’ll be a champion like my Dad. – interrupts Georgiy his mother.

The match ended and the team of Ugra in full came out to the spectators and the guys began to knock with the sticks. And the fans gave the athletes sitting of hockey sledge a standing ovation together with the song “We are the champions!”

“Unlucky score,” – sais somebody from the crowd of spectators.

Can we call it unlucky? Number of the captain of Ugra team Kostya Shikhov is 13 and in the words of his wife he voluntarily wished to have this number. And the gamed took place on December 13. “These guys win against all odds; they have no any superstitions, illnesses or barriers. - notes Eduard Isakov, deputy of the Duma of Khanty-Mansiysk Okrug, director of the Sports Centre for the Disabled of Ugra, - On ice they are fighting first of all with themselves, and that’s why they win worthy.”
