On December 20 sledge hockey club "Ugra" played the last match of the 1st stage of Russia Championship and won three goals to nil from the team of Moscow “White Bears”. The 1st stage of Russia Sledge Hockey Championship was held in Aleksin (Tula Oblast) from December 15 till December 21. Eight teams of Udmurtia, Moscow Oblast “Phoenix”, Khanty-MansiyskOkrug, “White Bears” and “Star” of Moscow city, PromorskyKrai, Orenburg and Chelyabinsk Oblasts took part in the competitions. “Ugra” began its games at the championship confidently and won twice in succession. In the first match with Orenburg Oblast the score was 16:1. In the second game our team beat Chelyabinsk Oblast – score 12:0. “Ugra” losttoUdmurtiateamwiththescore 2:1. As a result in the semi-final our team played with the team of Moscow Oblast “Phoenix” which held leading position in the group. The game was exciting. After close-fought battle the score was 3:0 for the team of Moscow Oblast. “Everybodywhosawthisgamesaidthatitwasthe most spectacular macth in the history of sledge hockey in Russia. Theguysbattled unselfishly, onadrenaline, in such way that all the body pained next day. Therewereclashes, battles, attacksonice. Itwasagreatmatch”, - the second coach of Ugra Aleksey Buzyrev says. In the final Ugra sledge hockey players have to compete with the team of “White Bears” (Moscow) for the third place. This game was completely in Ugra players’ hands, our guys dictated the terms. In the first period “Ugra” performed all tasks of the coaches. Nikolay Terentiev opened the scores hooting a goal to Moscow players. InthesecondperiodMikhailMokretsovmadeagoalto the opponents after Aleksey Petrov’s pass.Inthethirdperiodwhen “Ugra” playedshorthanded NikolayTerentiev repeated his success, made a goal after Konstantin Shikhov’s pass and strengthened the positions of the team. As a result the score was 3:0. Udmurtia won from “Phoenix” with the score 3:0. As a result the team of Udmurtia became the first. “Phoenix” of Moscow Oblast became the second, “Ugra” – the third. “Certainly we wanted to be the first. But the third place is also a good result for our team.” – Eduard Isakov, president of sledge hockey club “Ugra”, commented. – All guys played well. They showed a worthy play. According to the results of these competitions the national team of Russia for participation in the Paralympic Games Sochi – 2014 will be formed. And we hope that at least five Ugra players will be the members of this team. “The Stars Match” – a friendly game between united team of the best players of “Ugra”, Udmurtia, Orenburg Oblast and the best sledge hockey players of “Phoenix”, “White Bears” and “Stars” – took place on December 21.
