14.04.2013 The victory in the first game of the World Championship!
On April 13th the sledge hockey Russian national team consisting of the stickmen of the Ugra Sledge Hockey Club Konstantin Shikhov, Vasiliy Varlakov and Andrey Sokolov, won a landslide victory over the South Korea during the 2013 IPS A-League World Championship.

It was rather emotional game. From the very beginning the Russian team practiced the hard-line tactics and within the first changeover Dmitriy Lisov kicked a puck. The second period revealed the sharp and stern battle. Our boys knocked off their challengers. In the middle of the third period Dmitriy Lisov shot the second goal right from the blue line. But Korea kept the flag flying and won back lost positions with a puck in our goals with two minutes to go. The match resulted in the score 2 to 1.
“I would like to mark the game of Andrey Sokolov.” Aleksandr Zykov, head coach of the Ugra Sledge Hockey Club, who is witnessing the World Championship, comments. “Although it was his first appearance as a player of the Russian national team, yesterday he manifested himself an experienced all-round stickman. Being a blueliner and playing opposite Vasiliy Varlakov he showed a steady sound game.”
“The South Korea national team is one of the heaviest team of the international sledge hockey. Last year they took the silver at the World Championship. I hope this victory over Korea will inspire the Russian team in the further games. We stand a good chance to join the prize winners at 2013 World Championship,” says Eduard Isakov, the President of the Ugra Sledge Hockey Club.
Today, on April 14th, 12:40 p.m. by Ugra time, Russia encounters Canada, the winner of the 2006 Paralympic Games, the bronze medalist of the 2012 World Championship. Aleksandr Zykov believes it will be a real fight. “Our guys are in good mood, they are ready to everything. The Canadians are very strong players, yesterday they crushed Italy with the score 5 to 0.”
Also on April 13th the USA team, 2012 World champion, run a match with the Sweden nation team (7:0). It was quite smooth game until the mid of the first period. Then the U.S. soupped up the game and passed into the Sweden territory and the latest lost almost all attacks. The United States gained initiative and kept it for the following two periods.
Yesterday the Czech Republic beat Norway with the score 3 to 1.
