07.03.2013 “Ugra” beat “Udmurtia”

The last sledge hockey match of “Ugra” in the Championship of Russia took place today on March 7. Ugra team played with “Udmurtia” and defended the title of the best team of the country once more.

The game was very keen. It was very important to win for the sledge hockey players of Izhevsk in order to win “bronze” of the championship. For the team of Ugra this match was not decisive, the guys had already become the champions but they went to win and they could not recede from their positions. In the first period despite many attacks of two teams, they could not kick any goals. In the second period in the first minute the opponents kicked the puck to Ugra team having opened the score 1:0. In the seventh minute the team of Udmurtia was punished with a penalty shot for the hitch of the opponent with hands. The penalty shootout was successfully made by Andrey Sokolov equalizing thereby the score of the game.

The opponents continued their attacks. In the ninth minutes they kicked one more puck. But in the last minute of the second period Ugra team managed to recoup, Konstantin Shikhov kicked a goal and the score became 2:2.

The third period was not decisive. And in overtime Konstantin Shikhov kicked 2^nd-minute decisive goal. The score of the match was 2:3 for sledge hockey team “Ugra”.

The Championship of Russia ended. The solemn awarding ceremony took place in the evening. “Polar Bears” from Moscow won “bronze”, the team “Phoenix” of Moscow Region won “silver” and sledge hockey players of Ugra received gold medals and the champion cup.

The sledge hockey championship of Russia, which took place from March 1 to March 7 in the Olympic Park in Sochi, became the first testing competition at the small “Shayba” Arena.
