06.03.2013 Sledge hockey players of Ugra are the champions of Russia!

Today on March 6 a crucial match between two leaders of the Sledge Hockey Championship of Russia, the team of Ugra and the team “Phoenix” of Moscow Region, was held. The game ended with the score 2:1 for Ugra.

During the match there was hard play on ice. In the beginning of the first period sledge hockey players of “Phoenix” attacked the net of our team. In the third minute the goaltender of Ugra Sergey Badaev caught opponents’ puck. But in the fourth minute “Phoenix” managed to kick a goal.

From this moment the game was mainly played near the net of Moscow Region.

Ugra players attacked steadily but the goaltender of “Phoenix” did not allow tying the score. The score of the first period was 1:0.

In the second period the fans of Ugra hoped for a long-desired goal. And in the eighth minute Konstantin Shikhov came to the opponents’ net and was ready to make a goal but “Phoenix” defender hindered him with hands and the team of Moscow region was punished with a penalty shot for this fact. Shikhov remained alone with the goaltender and he managed to beat him. This was the fist puck of Ugra in this match and it gave them confidence. The second period ended with the draw score 1:1.

In the fifth minute of the third period Ugra team played well and Mikhail Mokretsov kicked the second goal after the pass of Vasiliy Varlakov. Then “Ugra” attacked “Phoenix” many times - Andrey Sokolov, Nikolay Chukhontsev, Aleksandr Chalin were very goof in their playing. “The guys played for 100 percent. They proved to everyone that our team is not just a worthy opponent but also it is a confident leader of the country in sledge hockey. - Eduard Isakov, president of sledge hockey club “Ugra” comments the results of the championship. – The win of Ugra is a result of joint work of the Department of Physical Training and Sports of Ugra, Ugra Sports Centre for the Disabled and sledge hockey club “Ugra”.

During three competition days the teams had practically equal number of points. “Ugra had 19 points, “Phoenix” – 18, “Udmurtia” – 15. The great thing for Ugra was to win in order to defend its champion title received at the 1^st stage of the Championship of Russia in October 2012. Our sledge hockey players did it. They showed good game which is worthy of winners.

On March 7 Ugra meets “Phoenix” of Udmurtia, “Phoenix” meets the team of Primorsky Krai and “Polar Bears” (Moscow) – the team of Mytishchi.

But the results of the last match will influence only for determination of silver and bronze prize winners of the competition.
