01.03.2013 The team of Ugra is in the final of the Championship of Russia

The sledge hockey team of Ugra Sports Centre for the Disabled will takr part in the final of the championship of Russia. The competition will be held from March 1 to March 7 in Olympic Park in Sochi at the “Shayba” Arena.

Sledge hockey players Konstantin Shikhov, Vasiliy Varlakov and the best goaltender of Russia Sergey Badaev, who are the members of the national team of Russia, champions and winners of Russian and international competitions play in the team of Ugra on Sochi ice.

“Ugra” will paly matches with five teams – “Polar Bears” of Moscow city, Primorsky Krai, “Atlant” Mytishchi city, “Phoenix” of Moscow Region and the team of Udmurtia.

This is the second stage of the championship of Russia. At the first stage which took place in Aleksin of Tula Region in October of 2012, the team of Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug was the first. It was the fist time when Ugra athletes became the champions. Then “Ugra” beat “Udmurtia” (3:2), “Atlant” (9:1) and the team of Primorsky Krai (13:0), yielded only to “Phoenix”(1:2). However, the defeat in the last match did not influence on the results of the competition.

Today on March 2 the team of Ugra meets “Polar Bears” from Moscow.

“The championship of Russia is a selective competition for formation of the national sledge hockey team of Russia which represents our country at the World Championship in Korea from April 12 to April 20 this year and at the Paralympics in Sochi in 2014. – comments Eduard Isakov, deputy of the Duma of Ugra, director of Ugra Sports Centre fro the Disabled.
